It has now been 12 years since I purchased the Christchurch franchise for Dream Doors and thought it would be a good time to update and share with you others my journey. Thinking back, pretty much everything from the first time I saw the TV advert for franchisees, things have gone unbelievably smoothly.
As a first time business owner and brand new to the kitchen industry, a franchise was ideal for me. It meant that I was buying into an established system and brand and could focus all my energy into growing the business rather than trying to establish systems and processes or trying to create a brand from nothing.
During my due diligence, I found everyone very approachable, honest, informative and no one ever applied any pressure. Derek Lilly the worldwide co-founder obviously had a very thorough understanding of the industry and the process of getting a new franchisee up and running. Pretty much every aspect of the process has happened just the way he said it would.
The training provided as part of the franchise arrangement was excellent and at just the right pace so as not to overwhelm us. There was a business plan that was developed for the franchisee, based on my own information and goals, before I bought the business. In talking to other franchisees this has turned out to be remarkably accurate and I have been tracking very well against it ever since I started. I certainly recovered my initial franchise fee investment very quickly and I am continuing to reinvest in this very profitable business.
2015 – 2020 have also been great years for the business, with revenues of over $1.5 million dollars annually and combined with a healthy profit.
2019, 2020 and 2021 have been consecutive records sales years. Culminating in March 2022 I received another national award for Excellence in Customer Engagement from the New Zealand Franchise Association (FANZ). 2023 has also continued to be a very profitable for me.
